1.57 FAQ-178 How do I make negative values in a column graph to plot downwards from zero?

Last Update: 8/27/2015

If you want your X axis to be shown at the position where Y=0:

  1. Select Format: Axes: X Axis or double-click on the X axis to open the Axis dialog.
  2. Go to the Line and Ticks tab, and make sure Bottom icon is selected in the left panel.
  3. Select "At Position=" from the Axis Position drop-down list.
  4. Enter 0 in the Percent/Value textbox.
  5. Click OK.

If you want your X Axis to be shown at the bottom but the negative bars point downwards, you need to make sure the additional line at Y=0 is enabled:

  1. Select Format: Axes: X Axis or double-click on the X axis to open the Axis dialog.
  2. Go to the Line and Ticks tab, and make sure Bottom icon is selected in the left panel.
  3. Select Bottom from the Axis Position drop-down list.
  4. Click the Grids tab.
  5. Make sure the Y = check box is selected in the Additional Lines group and the value in edit box is 0.

If you want to make the columns with values smaller than a specified value to plot downwards, you can input that specific value in Y= edit box in the Additional Lines group.
