3.37 FAQ-266 Why do I need to provide initial parameter estimates for my user-defined fitting

Last Update: 7/20/2018

Initial parameter values play a key role in fitting. Good parameter initialization results in fast and reliable model/data convergence. The NLFit provides automatic parameter initialization code for all built-in functions. For user-defined functions, you must add your own parameter initialization code or enter "guesstimate" parameter values to start the iterative fitting process. If you really have no idea what initial values should be for your user-defined function, set them to be 1
