Supporting Information

Results Log Output

Select the box to output results to Results Log (in addition to that specified in Output Results).

Calculate

Power Compute power for specified sample size.
Sample Size Compute sample size for proposed power.

Test Specification

1st Group Variance Value of the 1st population variance.
2nd Group Variance Value of the 2nd population variance.
Alpha Probability of rejecting the null hypothesis when it is true.
Hypothetical Power(s) Specify space-separated list of hypothetical power(s). Available when Calculate = Sample Size.
Hypothetical Sample Size(s) Specify space-separated list of hypothetical sample size(s). Available when Calculate = Power.
Alternative Hypothesis

Perform a one- or two-tailed test:

Not Equal
Indicates that the two-tail Variance test is used
Less Than
Indicates that the lower-tail Variance test is used
Greater Than
Indicates that the upper-tail Variance test is used

Options

Controls to be used when supplying additional power or sample size values by worksheet dataset:

When calculating power (Calculate = Power):

More Hypothetical Sample Size(s) Select to activate the Hypothetical Sample Size(s) Column input controls.
Hypothetical Sample Size(s) Column Specify column of sample size values. Available when More Hypothetical Sample Size(s)... is selected.

When calculating sample size (Calculate = Sample Size):

More Hypothetical Power(s) Select to activate the Hypothetical Power(s) Column input controls.
Hypothetical Power(s) Column Specify column of power values. Available when More Hypothetical Power(s)... is selected.

Power Curve

Select to output power curves. The power curve plots every combination of power v.s. the Alternative Proportion. Power curves are helpful for determining the appropriate sample size or power for the test.
