This presentation uses two panels (sets of axes, or layers) oriented vertically to illustrate the changes in adult cigarette smoking behavior in the United States between 1965 and 1995. Each of the layers display distinct X and Y axes. However, the X axis in the top layer is directly linked to the X axis in the bottom layer. Thus, if the X axis scale range in the bottom layer is modified, the top layer's axis automatically updates to display the same change. A vertical dashed line denotes the year 1992. Information associated with the vertical line displays below the graph. Additionally, a separate data plot legend displays in both layers of the graph. To complete the presentation, the top X and right Y axes are displayed in both layers, enhancing the readability of the graph and creating a boundary around both layers.
