Origin 7.5 provides extensive scientific graphing and analysis capabilities with new tools that simplify common operations.

New Features:

Import Wizard, Automatic Update of Worksheet Calculations, New Select Columns for Plotting Dialog Box, Themes, MATLAB® Connectivity, Automation Server Support

NORTHAMPTON, MA, July 8, 2003 - OriginLab Corporation announces the release of Origin version 7.5, a leading Windows®-based scientific graphing and analysis software. A host of new features will allow users to more efficiently access data, create graphs, and apply final touches. An import wizard visually assists in importing custom ASCII and binary files; afterward the user can simply drag and drop data files into Origin. Built-in utilities allow easy data transfer with MathWorks® MATLAB. Worksheet calculations can be automatically updated whenever the source data is modified. Over 60 basic plot types allow you to quickly create 2D, 3D, contour, and image graphs. Users can instantly change the look of any graph by applying a built-in or user-defined theme. Intuitive analysis tools offer statistics, curve fitting, signal processing, and peak analysis. For ultimate power and flexibility, a completely integrated C compiler and over 300 NAG® functions are provided.

"Origin has become known in the research community as a very powerful graphing and analysis software that is relatively easy to use," says OriginLab's founder and President, Dr. C.P. Yang. "For Origin 7.5 we provide timesaving tools to simplify routine tasks, so that Origin will be even easier to use for common operations, from importing data to constructing and fine-tuning graphs."

For over 10 years OriginLab has provided a comprehensive solution for scientists and engineers who need to graph, analyze, and make professional presentations of their data. Origin 7.5 significantly builds upon OriginLab's tradition of providing the required blend of tools to accommodate both the novice and advanced users.

New Features

Import Wizard
A wizard visually provides step-by-step assistance to import ASCII and binary data. Once the user has imported a file, an import filter can be created to allow these files to be easily dragged and dropped into Origin in the future.

Automatic Update of Worksheet Calculations
Origin's Set Column Values dialog box now has a option to automatically update results whenever source data is changed. User can import or paste new data over existing data, or simply type in new values.

New "Select Columns for Plotting" Dialog Box
This new dialog allows efficient plotting of data from multiple worksheets and modification of exiting plots. The list of worksheets can be sorted by name, label, and imported data file information.

Theme
Users can instantly change the look of any graph by applying a built-in or user-defined collection of formatting details called a Theme. A theme can be constructed from any existing graph and it can be applied to another graph, or to all graphs in an Origin project file. Additionally, the user can copy the format of any graph element, such as an axis, and paste it onto any other element of the same type.

Origin C Programmable Dialog Box
A dialog box can be constructed purely from Origin C code, without any additional resource DLL. This dialog box supports the typical controls like edit, check box, and combo boxes. Alternatively, the dialog box can also be constructed to be shown in a tree for user input of structured data.

Attach Files
User files such as PDFs, images, and programs, can be attached to the Origin project (OPJ) file.
Origin C functions attached to a project will automatically compile upon opening.

MATLAB Connectivity
Exchange data with MATLAB, including workspace files (.MAT).
Origin C User-Defined Classes
Origin C now provides additional C++ features like user-defined classes.

Automation Server Support
Access Origin from other applications, such as Microsoft® Visual Basic®, Microsoft® Excel and National Instruments™ LabVIEW™.
