This month's case study comes from Origin's Japanese distributor, Lightstone International. We thank Lightstone and Dr. Shiro Hara of Japan's National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (AIST) for sharing this story with us.

Minimal Fab is an innovative semiconductor manufacturing system which uses a half-inch wafer as the production unit for circuit boards. The Fab System Research Consortium (128 member organizations as of April, 2015) of AIST has been engaged in various activities to create and establish the 21st-century fab system. The system eliminates many of the problems of scale and cost that have plagued the semi-conductor industry, making possible the small-scale production increasingly in demand by numerous manufacturing sectors.
